Boutique Markets @ Portside Wharf this Sunday

Boutique_markets

The Boutique Markets at Portside Wharf is on again this Sunday (12th July) from 8am to 4pm. It will be an extra huge day because it coincides with Portside Wharf's annual Coffee and Chocolate Affair which starts at 10am - just in time for morning tea. I've seen the list of stall holders for this weekend's Boutique Markets and there are some great retailers like Little Jane St and Thea and Sami. Should be a great day.

Also, I've updated my bloglist (on the right) with a few new Fresh Blog Finds. Some great blogs - something for everyone.

Have a great weekend!

Bellebas

Bellebas
I am absolutely besotted by pleats and tucks at the moment. They feature heavily in a collection I am designing. One label who presents pleats in a really unique way is Bellebas. Luli De Paula is an Argentinian fashion designer living in Ireland who creates beautiful dresses and tops featuring exquisite detailing. I would really love to have that dress in the last picture. Check out the Bellebas website and etsy shop.

Custom Kokeshi 2009

The 'Kokeshi: From Folk Art to Art Toy' exhibition opens at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles on 11 July 2009. As part of the exhibition, Christina Conway has curated a showcase called 'Custom Kokeshi 2009' of over 100 internationally respected artists, illustrators and designers.

You can see more sneak peaks on Christina Conway's blog. Being a huge Japanophile, I'm really excited about this collection. I can't wait to see the full images of the all the kokeshi dolls.

Kokeshi dolls have become mainstream popular these days. You can even buy little kokeshi keyrings at the local newsagent now. If you want some more tradional ones though check out my post here.  Or you can play around making your own virtual kokeshi here.

Kokeshi_amigarumi
These amigurumi kokeshi dolls or 'Krokeshi' by Emi Motokawa are super cute too. Available here.

Visit the Japanese American National Museum website for full details of the Kokeshi exhibition.

Mathilda's Market

Mathildas_market
You know a market must be good when within 2 years it has grown from a biannual Sydney market to one that is held 3 times a year in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra. Mathilda's Market showcases some of Australia's freshest handmade and limited production toys, clothing, accessories and home wares for little ones.

According to founder, Anne Lewis, Mathilda’s Market caters for parents who appreciate their children looking unique and stylish, and who are looking for an affordable alternative to buying mass produced products at chain shopping centres. Personally, the idea of beautiful things that haven't been mass produced gives me a little zing and I cringe at the idea of buying anything with a tv character on it - except for maybe Charlie and Lola.

The next Mathilda's Market is on this Sunday (5th July) in Sydney and then in Brisbane and Perth on Sunday 19th July 2009. Check out the website for locations and details of your local market retailers.

Blog Giveaway!

Postcard_giveaway
My apologies for being so silent this week - have been incredibly busy. Not all work though, managed to make time to get dressed up and go to the premiere of the new movie, Coco Avant Chanel. We were treated to some of my favourite things - sushi, champagne and Krispy Kreme donuts. Although I don't usually have them at the same time, was very indulgent nonetheless.

Anyway, I thought it was about time we had a little giveaway. If you would like one of my Keep Calm and Carry On Shopping postcards and magnet please leave a comment to this post. I have 10 sets to giveaway. Entries close Tuesday 30 June 2009. If there are more than 10 entries, winners will be drawn at random.

ETA: if you sign in with your Google account to leave a comment, please put your name in the comment also otherwise I can't see who you are. Cheers!

Latest Press: BoligLiv

Boligliv_cover
My latest piece of press is in the July 09 issue of Danish magazine, BoligLiv.

Boligliv

Translation:
Statements on clothing and bags are a hit this summer, so with a politically correct shopping in canvas signals you both environmental and fashion consciousness. Shop you out of the crisis with beautiful things from Australian Jamie Beattie - you are at least not ruined by the network, which costs about. 60 DKK plus shipping to Denmark of approx. 20 kr

Thanks Google. You get the idea.

CuteAbility

Cuteability

I'm positive that jewellery just can't get any cuter or kitschier than this. CuteAbility has the most insanely cute and quirky collection of jewellery depicting everything from teacups to cupcakes to bacon and eggs. I absolutely adore that little pink toaster. Super sweet! Not sure that I could get away with wearing any of it though. Shop here.

Latest Press

Press_sunday_telegraph_090614
My Sunday started off with this fantastic bit of press in Sydney's Sunday Telegraph. Then I had a fabulous day at the Boutique Markets - the sun was shining and there were lots of lovely people out and about. I had some great stall neighbours, like Peg & Kate and My Girl, which makes the day more like a social outing than work. Today I'm packaging all the orders that have flooded in from the newspaper piece. Busy, busy, happy busy.
